In Rock We Trust...

As spring approaches and the year is already gettin close to 3 months old I thought I should bring ya'll up to speed on Birdman's musical intake! I can't tell ya how nice it's gonna be to see green grass and feel a warm breeze as winter rears it's last gasps. Spring seems to be here early in Ottawa as it's been downright pleasant for the whole of March...very unusual. What isn't so unusual for this time of year is the bountiful music releases that have been pouring into the shop and the amount that are on the near horizon.

Stuff that's been most impressive as of late are new records from Omar Rodriguez Lopez and his album "Old Money" on Stones Throw. As always Omar stretches his guitar prowess to the max on a full on electric blitz of psych-funkiness and outer rim experimental onslaughts. The band is bangin' along in find style and this all instrumental forage falls musically between the recent "Absence" lp and the earlier "Apocalypse" record. "The Man From Mars" can do no wrong !
The new long player (ever wonder what LP stood for?), from The Soundtrack Of Our Lives called "Communion" comes in the form of a double cd and double lp(with download coupon and bonus tracks). TSOOL deliver their perfect blend of psychedelic pop punch and the fact that it's been 4 years !!!!! since their last recorded appearance, it seems like no time has been lost! Anthemic perfection is the order of the day and I can't imagine any fan of rock music would not love "Communion"!
I Really dig the 2nd album from Aethenor entitled "Faking Gold & Murder" on VHF records. Among the groups ranks is Stephen O'Malley (Sunn O), Alexander Tucker (renowned UK guitarist), David Tibet(Psychic TV, Current 93) and an all star cast. This highly creative record is hard to describe but to say outer worldly music with the punch of 2 insane percussionist drummers for propulsion this here pup takes you to many places. The vinyl version is lavish and worth the higher cost.

Other great new releases all here in magnificence include offerings from Arbouretum, the Black Lips, Beirut, Bonnie Prince Billy, Neko Case, Willem Maker, Loren Mazzacane Connors, The Drones, Robyn Hitchcock, Kid Congo Powers, Mystery Girls, Hunches, Zombi, 16, Wino and Brian Eno and David Byrne. Come in and check it out!

On the near horizon are new albums from John Doe with The Sadies, Wooden Shjips, Assemble Head In Sunburst Sound, Warlocks, Heads and White Hills split, Pontiak, Bob Log III, Crippled Black Phoenix, Radio Moscow, Mono, Thermals, Sunn O, Marissa Nadler, Atavist, Church Of Misery, Cathedral, Litmus, Life On Earth! and so many reissues on vinyl of killer stuff from everywhere, anytime and all styles that it would make your head spin!!!!
