What's Hot at Birdman Sound ?

Wow, never a dull moment and no end in sight! I think anyone who reads this blog or listens to Friday Morning Cartunes already knows this, but man it's hard to keep up with the listening these days! So much music and for most, so little time! I thought I'd share a moment to let you all know some of the great stuff in heavy rotation here at Birdman Sound.....

Elephant9 - Walk The Nile on Norway's Rune Grammofon label.....heavy, heavy Rhodes/Hammond driven psych jazz power trio. Acid Mothers Temple - In 0 to Infinity (Important Records)....another great double slab of Japanese psych superiority...I never grow weary of Kawabata's sonic guitar assault! Lisa O Piu - Behind The Bend(Subliminal Sounds). A second outing for this wickedly voiced Swedish acid fol Goddess and her stellar band! Mighty Baby - Tasting the Life (Sunbeam). One of my favorite west coast psych bands, but, from the UK. A killer live set from 1971. Both magnificent volumes of "Freedom, Rhythm And Sound" on Universal Sounds out of the UK. These 2 comps serve as a perfect introduction for anyone not familiar with "spiritual jazz" sounds and a kick-ass reminder of past brilliance to those already in the know! Robedor - Raiders on Not Not Fun is still hot and different evry listen! Dark, brooding, hevy experimental psych tones. Can't wait to hear the new one due shortly on Important! Panama Limited's "Indian Summer" outta the UK, early 70's period takes psych-folk to a Captain Beefheart style blues and creates a monster....nice....Motorpsycho 14th or so album "Heavy Metal Fruit" is the best heavy prog attack's of the first decade of the millennium, end of story!!! People's "Ceremony" album from the prolific early 70's Japanese psych scene finally reissued and is totally as great as was rumoured.....I think Ghost must have absorbed this album and taken it to heart. Vibracathedral Orchestra's 3 albums on VHF, "Joka Baya", "Smoke Song" and "The Secret Base" are all truly outer-inspirational !! Stone Breath's The Shepherdess and the Bone - White Bird" is English Druid-Folk at it's best!! Obskuria's 2nd album "Burning Sea Of Green" on World Of Sound is heavy psych/spacerock at it's best from members of La Ira De Dios and Dragonwyck...awesome!
Beak is Geoff Barrow of Portishead and this album revisits some of the great moments of earlyto mid 70's krautrock...recorded live in one room with no overdubs and a truly killer listen, time and time again. "Hymprovisations for Banjo" is a recent Daniel A.I.U. Higgs outing and like all of his previous efforts is pure magic in the making!
Now here's some forthcoming stuff we're really excited about....Daniel Higgs - Say God, Amazing - Wait For The Light To Come, Woods - , Sun Araw - On Patrol , Magic Lantern - Platoon , Grails - Black Tar Prophecies, Mugstar - Sun,Broken, Temple of L.I.B. - My Name Is Magic, No Balls - Come Clean, Crazy Dreams Band - War Dream, Sylvester Anfang II - Commune Cassetten, Jailbreak - The Rocker, Guanaco - Sky Burials, Orkustra - Adventures In..., Ufomammut - Eve, Omar Rodriguez Lopez - Ciencia de los InĂștiles and quite literall y tons more.....hope to see you at Birdman soon!
